Chris Goeglein, MBA / Managing Principal and Founder
Chris is an experienced strategist, advisor to senior executives, and change agent. During almost a decade of leading corporate transactions for Lincoln Financial Group, he evaluated transactions worldwide and completed numerous acquisitions, divestitures, initial public offerings, and startups with a combined deal volume in excess of $7 billion.
As an expert in corporate strategy, valuation, and corporate finance, Chris has become a trusted advisor to business owners and managers. He has advised business owners in diverse sectors, such as insurance, investments, automotive, distribution, manufacturing, and e-commerce.
A Registered Representative with Burch & Company, Inc., a member of FINRA and SiPC, Chris holds FINRA Series 62, 63 and 79 securities licenses. He holds an MBA from Ball State University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science and political science from Taylor University.
In addition to his work in the for-profit sector, Chris is active in nonprofit leadership, serving on the Taylor University Board of Trustees and the boards of Taylor University Broadcasting – WBCL, The Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Indiana, and the Fort Wayne Area Youth for Christ. Prior board service has included the Concordia Education Foundation and True Life Choices.
Chris and his wife, Deb, have three children. Outside of his professional and nonprofit activities, Chris enjoys spending time with family, traveling and playing tennis.
Monte Lightner, JD, CPA (inactive) / Principal
Since the late 1980’s, Monte has managed and directed the tax functions of several multi-national corporations, including Lincoln Re, Central Soya and Borden. His planning, research and administrative skills have created sophisticated acquisition and disposition structures, resulting in increased shareholder value. Monte has extensive experience in U.S. and international taxation as well as experience in other treasury matters, including debt placement and risk management. Monte has participated in large transactions worldwide, focusing on strategic financial and tax planning to ensure advantageous legal, tax and accounting treatment for shareholders.
Monte earned his juris doctor from Indiana University School of Law and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ball State University. He’s also a CPA (inactive) and member of the Indiana bar. He is a Registered Representative with Burch & Company, Inc., a member of FINRA and SiPC, and holds FINRA Series 62, 63 and 79 securities licenses.
Monte and his wife, Beth, are parents of 3 and are active in their church where he is board chairman. Monte also serves on the board of directors of A Hope Center.
Scott Metzger, MBA / Principal
Scott is an experienced finance and transaction professional who has applied these skills in a variety of business development activities. He is a strategic thinker experienced in strategic planning, deal structures, due diligence, and contract negotiations.
Scott has an in-depth understanding of the capital markets with experience in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and initial public offerings. He has led the establishment of a new business start-up and structured joint venture arrangements. Having worked for companies in the Fortune 500 as well as a closely held private company he understands many of the issues present in today’s increasingly competitive business landscape.
As a Registered Representative with Burch & Company, Inc., a member of FINRA and SiPC, Scott holds FINRA Series 62, 63 and 79 securities licenses. Scott graduated cum laude from Knox College in Galesburg Illinois, majoring in Business and Economics. He received an MBA from The University of Chicago.
Scott and his wife, Athena, have three children. He is a member of the Whitley County Sheriff’s Merit Board.
Ken Sipe, FSA, MAAA / Principal
Ken is a Principal of True North Strategic Advisors and is involved in all aspects of the Company’s corporate finance, business strategy and merger/acquisition advisory services. Prior to joining True North in 2005, Ken worked more than 20 years in the financial services industry, mainly in a variety of leadership and management positions with large, multinational, publicly-held corporations. In reinsurance deal-making roles with Lincoln Financial Group and ING Group, he was responsible for designing, pricing, negotiating and executing complex reinsurance transactions.
Also actively involved in nonprofit board leadership and executive mentoring, Ken serves as an advisor to nonprofit executives and boards in areas such as strategic planning, board development, policy governance, and strategic restructuring. He has served as a member of various nonprofit boards and currently serves on the board of Colorado-based Kingdom Building Ministries.
An actuary by professional training, Ken is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is a Registered Representative with Burch & Company, Inc., a member of FINRA and SiPC, and holds FINRA Series 62, 63 and 79 securities licenses. Ken earned a master’s degree in actuarial science from Ball State University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and business from Grace College.
A native of Berne, Ken and his wife, Tammy, live in Fort Wayne where they have raised three children. Together, they serve as mentors to engaged and young-married couples. In his free time, Ken enjoys time with family, traveling, reading, and playing tennis.
Josh Sipe, CFA, MBA / Senior Associate
Josh joined True North in 2016 after 10 years in the banking and financial services industry. Josh is a skilled financial analyst and strategic planner with a thorough knowledge of capital markets. He has previously led corporate financial analysis and risk management functions at a large community bank and provided investment advisory, trust, and estate planning services for private clients.
At True North, Josh is responsible for building financial models, fulfilling buy-side and sell-side client information requests, assisting in the development of shareholder transition plans, and participating in corporate and nonprofit strategy development.
Josh earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Miller College of Business at Ball State University, an MBA from Taylor University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Outside of the office, Josh serves at his church and is board treasurer at A Hope Center. He and his wife, Lauren, have two children. They are active in their church, enjoy spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors.
John Nelson, MBA / Project Manager
John has broad experience in managing complex projects and enjoyed a successful career with IBM Corporation prior to joining True North in 2003. At IBM, he held positions in sales, management, and computer systems design and development—and received multiple awards for his work. At True North, in addition to account management and M&A work, John’s responsibilities include technical writing, market and industry research and analysis, and the development of financial modeling and analysis tools.
An electrical engineer by formal training, John is a member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He holds an MBA from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University.
After living in suburban D.C. and upstate New York for the first part of their married life, John and Lori, his wife of 39 years, reside in Fort Wayne. They have 4 adult children, a teenage daughter and eight grandchildren. John has served on the boards of various nonprofit organizations. He currently serves on the elder board of his church.
Kayla Luithly, Office Coordinator and Analyst
Kayla joined True North in July 2015, where she serves as Office Coordinator & Analyst. Her duties include managing the office, performing market research, and designing presentations.
Kayla’s nonprofit experience includes serving as Project Manager at an alternative high school. She also spent some time substitute teaching prior to coming to True North. Kayla holds a bachelor’s degree in leadership, intercultural studies, and teaching English to speakers of other languages from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Having spent most of her life in Kansas and Illinois, Kayla moved to Fort Wayne in 2014. For her first year, she lived with her in-laws while her fiancé (now husband) lived halfway across the country. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys socializing, being outdoors, and acquiring new hobbies.
Ama Abrokwah, Post-Doctoral Intern
Ama recently moved to Fort Wayne and joined True North as a post-doctoral intern in July 2017. She is responsible for data validation, analysis, and a broad range of research projects.
Prior to True North, Ama worked with Enterprise Life Assurance Company where she was in charge of analyzing and evaluating diverse company data and was a member of the agent strategy and innovation team.
Ama earned her doctorate degree in applied economics from Western Michigan University, with fields of specialization including monetary economics, development economics, and econometrics. Her research focuses on issues pertaining to social health insurance and maternal and child health outcomes. She also has a master’s in financial and regulatory economics from Illinois State University.
She enjoys cooking and eating Ghanaian food. Ama and her husband, Stephen, have a lovely son. They are on various committees in their church and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
